Apple iMac

When I set out to buy a new iMac, I decided to just shoot for the moon. I expanded the internal RAM to the max, which was 1 gig. I got the "Super Drive" which not only ready CDs and DVDs, and burned CDs, but also burned DVDs. It was an exciting prospect to be able to burn my videos to DVD. I also wanted disk space. Lots of disk space. I got the biggest internal hard drive they had. Beyond that, I got two external hard drives at 125G each. That gave me a quarter terabyte of storage! At the time of this writing, I still haven't run out of space yet.

As soon as I got the computer hooked up I poked around with iDVD. The first thing I learned was that anything I wanted to burn to DVD had to be resident on the hard disk. So I set about digitizing my entire back catalog of video work. I started by pulling all my finished iMovie projects back in from digital tape. Then I went through and digitized all the SVHS and Hi8 masters I had. By the time I was done I had my entire body of work on disk. All my best stuff fit onto one DVD. All my mediocre stuff I put on a second DVD, creating a 2-DVD set. All the stuff that sucked I didn't bother with, although it was still resident on disk. I haven't done enough work since to fill another DVD yet, but I'm always making progress.

That's where I'm at today. This is still my primary computer, it still works great, and I still love it.
